Description
This is a very rare piece. It is a tooth from a carnivorous fish, probably from the genus Calamopleurus africanus. This is a very rare and hard to find species of fish in the Cretaceous in the south of Morocco.

This specimen is preserved without any restoration or reparation. The enamel quality on the tip as well as its shine are exceptional. It preserves all the root except for a small fractured zone.

Some sellers classify teeth with this morphology as belonging to the Brichaetus muelleri taxon. However, so far this taxon has not been found in the Tegana Formation or the Aufous Formation. We consider that this specimen belongs to the Calamopleurus genus.
Next you can find a link to a scientific study which discusses this species and its relevance in the paleontological deduction of the continental tectonic movements. A species like this has also been found in the Brazilian Cretaceous, with an almost identical morphology to the African species.

The abundant fish fauna which can be found in the cretaceous layers of the Kem Kem Basin is large and varied. Recently Cavin et al., (2015) made an important revision of the cretaceous association of continental fish in the south of Morocco.
