Description

Denversaurus is a nodosaurid armored dinosaur from the Late Cretaceous, commonly found as fossils (osteoderms, scutes) in the fossil-rich Lance Creek Formation (Wyoming) and Hell Creek Formation (Montana/Dakotas), known for its wide snout, bony armor, and shoulder spikes, closely related to Edmontonia, though often hard to distinguish from Ankylosaurus fossils found in the same formations.

About Denversaurus
Type: A nodosaurid ankylosaur, part of the armored dinosaur family.
Features: Had a broad skull, bony armor (osteoderms), and prominent shoulder spikes, but lacked the tail club of Ankylosaurus.
Size: Estimated to be around 20 feet (6 meters) long.
Name: Means "Denver lizard," named after the Denver Museum of Nature & Science where its holotype (original fossil) is housed.
Species: The type species is Denversaurus schlessmani

Fossils in the Lance Creek Formation
Location: The Lance Creek Formation in Wyoming, along with the Hell Creek Formation, is a prime source for Denversaurus fossils.
Fossil Type: Most commonly found as isolated armor plates (osteoderms) or scutes, often mixed with Ankylosaurus remains.
Discovery: Fossils were first found by Philip Reinheimer in South Dakota and later studied by Bob Bakker, who established the genus in 1988.
Significance
Denversaurus fossils help scientists understand the diversity and ecosystem of North America just before the end-Cretaceous extinction event.

Observations about the tooth specimen we offer here: It shows a strongly developed feeding wear, what means that should belong to an adult individual.
