S87 - Finest Quality Dromaeosaurid Raptor Theropod Dinosaur Tooth - Judith River Fm

Dromaeosaur teeth from the Judith River Formation are from the Late Cretaceous period and belong to feathered, raptor-like dinosaurs such as Dromaeosaurus and Saurornitholestes.

These teeth are typically small, sharp, and serrated, ideal for a diet of small animals like lizards, mammals, and baby dinosaurs. Key identification features include a distinctive twist in the anterior carina and serrations that can be finer on the front edge than the back. 

Characteristics of dromaeosaur teeth from the Judith River Formation

Classification: The teeth come from small, fast theropod dinosaurs known as dromaeosaurs, or "raptors".

Period: They are from the Campanian stage of the Late Cretaceous, approximately 79-75 million years ago.

Diet: These dinosaurs were predators that fed on small animals, and their teeth were equipped for this purpose.

Distinctive features:
Serrated edges: The teeth have serrations along the edges, which are like tiny teeth themselves.
Twisted carina: A key feature is a twist in the anterior carina (the ridge running along the front edge of the tooth).
Serration density: Serrations can be finer on the front edge (approx. 22 per 5mm) than on the back edge (approx. 17 per 5mm).
Multiple species: The formation contains teeth from different dromaeosaur species, including the more robust Dromaeosaurus and the more slender Saurornitholestes.
