Description

Bothriospondylus madagascariensis refers to a Middle Jurassic (Bathonian, ~150-165 Ma) sauropod dinosaur from Madagascar, often represented in fossil collections by spoon-shaped or chisel-like teeth (approx. 3.7-5 cm). The species, based on fragmented material, is currently considered a questionable taxon (nomen dubium) and often classified as Eusauropoda indet. or associated with Lapparentosaurus.

Observations about our specimen: Nicely preserved with stunning visible feeding wear as well as its still partially rooted.

Key Details About Bothriospondylus madagascariensis Teeth:

Geological Context: Found in the Isalo III Formation in the Majunga Basin of Madagascar.

Appearance: The teeth are generally described as spoon-shaped (spatulate) or robust, conical-chisel shaped, typical of basal eusauropods or macronarians.

Size: Specimens commonly measure around 2.7 cm to 5 cm in length.

Taxonomic Status: While historically named by Richard Lydekker in 1895, modern research suggests the teeth and fossils might belong to Lapparentosaurus or other basal sauropods present in that region.

Market Availability: Teeth labeled as Bothriospondylus from Madagascar are relatively common in the commercial fossil market, frequently originating from the Kamoro region.

Note: Some specimens formerly assigned to this species have been reclassified as a distinct brachiosaurid, Vouivria.
