Description
Meteorite type & CLASS / OFFICIAL NAME or NUMBER (Meteoritical Bulletin Database):  "NWA 14917" Diogenite (Polymict) - HED Achondrite Meteorite

FALL/FIND LOCATION:  Northwest Africa

WEIGHT: 26,4g (unpolished thick slice)
Size: 7,25 x 4,83 x 2,7cm

Observations:

History: Purchased by Juan Avilés Poblador in September 2021 from an Algerian dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Breccia dominated by lithic clasts of diogenitic composition and related debris with vol.% eucrite material. Accessory phases include kamacite (relatively abundant, both fresh and altered), ilmenite, Ti-chromite and troilite.

Geochemistry: Diogenitic orthopyroxene (Fs22.5-25.4, FeO/MnO = 32, N = 2; Fs30.9-33.4, FeO/MnO = 29-31, N = 4), eucrite low-Ca pyroxene (Fs41.2Wo3.0, FeO/MnO = 22), augite (Fs13.7-17.2Wo44.1-43.2, FeO/MnO = 20-24, N = 3), plagioclase (An88.8-92.0Or0.5-0.3, N = 3).

Classification: Diogenite (polymict breccia).

The authenticity of this specimen is guaranteed by the geologist Juan A. Poblador, member of International Meteorite Collectors Association IMCA 5681 and Global Meteorite Association G0043. Also, Im the official main mass holder of this meteorite.

The meteorite would have started its journey to Earth as a result of a massive meteor strike on the Vesta asteroid surface, likely creating huge craters. That initial strike had sufficient force to eject this and other rocks from the surface of the Vesta asteroid at escape velocity, leaving them to float freely in space. Eventually, this mass intersected with the Earth's own orbit where its surface was flash-heated to 2,800 degrees Fahrenheit on entry, then rapidly cooled in the frigid temperatures of Earth's upper atmosphere, before slowing to approximately 200 miles per hour on its final descent. This fall would have lit the Saharan sky up before hurtling down to its site of discovery.

The Only Real Specialist. A Certified Paleontologist in Charge

Many turn their hobby into business, they have an online store or sell in eBay. While that can be commendable, it can’t compare with a real expert, with years of academic formation, supervised field work experience, trained in the art of correct identification, detection of fakes, and a solid network of other accredited paleontologists to consult with.

The key facts are being able to guarantee:
Proper Fossil IDAccurate Scientific DescriptionLifetime Warranty

We do that, and in addition we provide a state-of-the-art uniquely numbered, 24/7 online verifiable, hologram-secured Certificate of Authenticity with all the specimens. It is a lifetime warranty: if new discoveries are made that modify the classification of the specimen or there is any inaccuracy, we will re-issue the certificate.
